September 30-October 4

Math: We will work on counting coins. We will make $1 using different combinations of coins. We will be learning a new game to help us practice that new skill.

Spelling: We have a review spelling list this week. NO CHALLENGE WORDS

Science: We will be learning about plants, their parts, and their needs.

Handwriting: We will learn lowercase cursive a and d.

Last Week in School...

We played a new math game called Close to 100 in math class. We have a lot of fun playing our games with our partners!

 We had our first character assembly.
Sophia won the award for having the best sportsmanship in the class. Our class also won 2 golden awards for behavior in specials. We won the golden shoe from PE and the golden microphone for Music!

 We partner read about communities and settlers
 from our Social Studies books. 

 Officer Senger came to our class to talk to us about police officers,
laws, and how to stay safe.

Two girls from our class ran for secretary/treasurer for student council. They had to read their speeches in front of all of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
 They did great!

In PE, the kids got to rotate through 6 different stations
where they got to do all sorts of things.

 Mrs. Aman read us a story during read aloud.

Our class Poet-Tree is now decorated in our poems about fall.

Math: We will learn to estimate if sums are more or less than 100. We will be learning a new game to help us practice that new skill.

Reading: Our story of the week is My Rows and Piles of Coins.

Writing: We will be learning to write a realistic fiction story.

Social Studies: We will continue to learn about communities. We will learn about why people move to and from communities. We will also be learning about the struggles of Native Americans when settlers first arrived.

Handwriting: We will learn lowercase cursive a.

Last Week in School...

We solved story problems in math using different strategies.

We love keyboarding!

We wrote descriptions of our classroom. We split into groups, and each group described one area of the classroom. We started by making word webs, and then using the webs to write a story. One person from each group read their description to the class.

We got to watch Simmons Middle School's Homecoming Parade. 

Some of us even caught footballs they were throwing!

We got to hula-hoop in PE class.

We made a list of community helpers in Social Studies.
We found a helper for each letter of the alphabet!
